A New Vision for Developing Transit for Livable Cities

An Afternoon with Enrique Penalosa

Please join the Cascadia Center of Discovery Institute, the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), and Breakthrough Technologies Institute (BTI) on Wednesday, September 27 for an educational event on sustainable, cost-effective public transportation featuring the Honorable Enrique Penalosa, former Mayor of Bogota, Colombia, and now Senior Fellow at ITDP.

Penalosa will describe his experience implementing TransMilenio, the world's model bus rapid transit system that moves over one million people a day. Over 20 percent of the system's riders have switched from driving cars to making the same trips via TransMilenio.

The event on September 27 will present Penalosa's experience using TransMilenio as a tool for improving Bogota's quality of life, and provide an opportunity to have a discussion about transit developments in the Seattle area. (Please note that this is a separate event from the technical invitation-only workshop on BRT being organized by the Federal Transit Administration at the Seattle Public Central Library on September 28).

The event will be held at the conference center on the third level of the Rainier Square Atrium, located at 1333 Fifth Avenue in Seattle, on Wednesday, September 27, at 1:30 p.m. Registration begins at 1:00 p.m. Cost for the event is $15 and includes a hosted reception.
