On February 24-25, 2005, the Cascadia Center of Discovery Institute held a
significant conference examining the intersection between transportation
and technology. Over 200 professionals attended. This two-day conference
was the second annual event sponsored jointly by Microsoft and the Cascadia
Center.
Presenters and discussants included Congressman Rick Larsen, Congressman
Dave Reichert, King County Councilwoman Julia Patterson, Portland Metro
Councilor and Vice President Rex Burkholder, Vancouver (BC) Translink CEO
Pat Jacobsen, Alaska Deputy Commissioner for Transportation John MacKinnon,Microsoft General Manager Martin Thall, West Coast Trucking's President DanGatchet, Pete McHugh of FAA at NASA Langley, Bill Vincent from BreakthroughTechnologies Institute, Bob Poole from Reason Foundation, and Deputy Director Richard Biter, Office of Intermodalism, Office of the Secretary, US Department of Transportation. Many other transportation technology and policy experts from up and down the West Coast were also contributors on the various panels.

Day one of the conference -- Breaking Gridlock with Technology -- focused
on national developments on tolls, transit modes, transportation
electronics and aviation.
Day two -- West Coast Corridor Coalition General Assembly -- focused on
freight mobility and security and federal support for multi-modal freight
movement.
